Consideration of Cyberspace
Cyberspace enter people's common life nowadays. It is amazing to communicate with friends who were in the other parts of word. For example: I use ichat or Skype connect with my friends whose in China. When I talk with them, my body and my mind was separate in some extent. My body is sitting in UK, but my mind is flying back to China. My eyes look the window of computer, my mind was thinking the matter, which happened far from me. But my body was still at home.
It is interesting that this kind of things happened frequently. Cyberspace has entered into common life. This means: the use of internet strengthenthe communication between people and society.
But some people argued, internet will lead people's psychological well-being dropped. It is report that people who often use chat tools and e-mail, always feel loneliness. They contact with family and friends declined. Therefore, the internet brings convenience to people, but in the other hand, it can't instead the face to face communication between people.

Consideration of "old" and "new" media
Nowadays, we had entered into a new media world.
In my opinion, for most theories in the world, including the theory of the media had never been fully innovation and it always be a product in specific period. Most of today's old theory just update. Although some of these theories appear on the old theory of a fundamental rewritten or complex synthesis. It is important to understand the foundation of new media theories. So there is no real "old" and "new" media.
For old media needed large capital, cultural and technical resources. ( local cinema, few television station) But the user of new media is no longer just a consumer. It is easy to become a new media author with tying errors, spelling mistakes and factual inaccuracies.
And now, people can watch a film from cable channels, satellite, video and DVD. People can received different lastest news from television or radio broadcast whenever they are. Use personal PC access remote database. Various of press feast for the people's eyes, which can fix different reader's taste.

lecture two notes: old vs new media
The pervasice-ness and inviniblity of media:
Media are seen to procide a sense of commonality between people. Media make many millions of people to understand the world in the same way.
A brief history of modernity:
With the rise in state bureaucracies, development of eduction and welfare systems, the growth of the urban proletaritat and bourgeois mercantile class, the rise of scientific rationality. In western eurpoe, first modernity was the initial movement from pre-modern society to modern society. Idea of class, race, nationality, religion are seen not to hace the power they did for those licing in secondary modernity. 'indicidualisation' typifies secondary modernity
Back to "old" and "new" media debate:
1. Techological determinist
2. Computer-based deeply effected by the effect of earlier mediation.
3. Discuss the effect of media
4. What is new from many different dirctions
Five types of 'yardstick': systemic, technical, aesthetic, logical and political
Systemic consideration: Owership, Regulation and Access
Technical consideration: Electric vs Non-electric, Analogue vs Digital
Aesthetic consideration: New media was differences from old media in look, taste, sound, smell and act.
Remediation:
New media will not dramatically different in look the style of the old media.
Logical considerations:
Old media needed large capital, cultural and technical resources. The user of new media is no longer just a consumer. It is easy to become a new media author with typing errors, spelling mistakes, and factual inaccuracies.
New media is the effect that they hace no time and space.
